In the Summer parking is at a premium in the Heritage downtown on the Harbour and the beach and the Town charges $40.00 for all day parking. Guests at the King George have free parking during their stay and that makes our inn more affordable compared to all the other accommodation in Cobourg,

       HISTORY OF THE JAIL

In 1906, number 77 Albert Street was purchased from the McCutcheon Family by the Corporation of the United Counties of Northumberland and Durham to house prisoners from the small in town old “Goal” as it was then called. In those times Jails were situated on the water where possible for ease of transportation hence our proximity to Lake Ontario in the heart of the Heritage downtown. Cobourg Jail was one of the biggest of its time, holding up to one hundred inmates.
